This year’s Grade 5 students all agree that the camp to Straddie was the best so far. Everyone was challenged to try new experiences such as holding a crab, nursing a sea cucumber and riding the waves at Cylinder Beach. We also learned to get along with other students we rarely interact with. All the parents prepared delicious food and helped us get organised for the next activity. There was heaps of mouth-watering food that satisfied our hungry stomachs.
One of our favourite night-time activities was the Halloween celebration that Mrs Dobson and Mrs Brandon organised for us. The Wicked Witch of the West made an appearance and everyone got a glow in the dark mask to wear during the night beach activities.
The list of activities we did on camp was endless. We had surf life-saving lessons, beach running, boogie boarding and a visit to Myora Springs.
Huge thanks to all the parents, teachers and James the bus driver. The parents took time away from their jobs to help volunteer on our camp and to help the teachers make the camp run smoothly. James the bus driver got us safely from place to place and had to listen to all the chatter from some very excited students.
Finally, thank you to Mrs Brandon, Mrs Dobson and Mr Tiernan for all the extra work they put in planning and preparing for the camp.
Straddie Camp was an awesome experience and we hope that in the future other students get the chance to spend time at Stradbroke Island.
